Visions Of Indepdence Supports Heart and Stroke Foundation Canada – Big Bike Event
Visions Of Independence (VOI) representatives were pleased to once again be Big supporters of the Big Bike event held on Saturday September 24th, 2016, in Portage La Prairie. This year’s event was dedicated to Don Chapman; father of Aimee Chapman, a VOI participant. Aimee was the top fundraiser for VOI raising $320.00.
Portage resident Don Chapman passed away from a heart attack exactly two years to the date of the Big Bike event.
“We are fundraising in memory of Don. For over six years now VOI has dedicated their fundraising money to the Heart and Stroke Foundation to spread awareness and to acknowledge those who we have lost in our community,” said Lucille Hilhorst, Service Coordinator for Visions of Independence in Portage La Prairie.
Visions Of Independence’s representatives raised and donated over $1300.00 this year, with a record breaking attendance of 22 people including VOI employees, VOI Supported Individuals, and community advocates. Those representatives are: Irene Boyse, Lucille Hilhorst, Cora Pohl, Aimee Chapman, Rose Chapman, Nancy Miller, Brett Miller, Leanne Miller, Cari Ann Nickels, Hakeem Ibitoye, Shijin Mathews, Laura Shingoose, Brian Little, Olwyn Keating, Patricia Endall, Amber Olson, Alita Lumgair, Theresa Clarke ,Dean Little, Diana Sayachuk, Kelsey Sanderson and Tiffany Mckinnon.
“It’s inspiring to see how involved our Supported Individuals have become in this event over the past six years. We are proud to support Heart and Stroke Foundation in its efforts to spread awareness about these important topics.” says Irene Boyse.
On behalf of Visions Of Independence in Portage, Supported Individual Aimee Chapman, said “I participated in the Big Bike ride because my father passed away. He was missed by everyone when he passed away because he was so friendly to everyone and so funny.”
